Unto Us


Traditionally, December ushers in a season of giving. We all rush around picking out gifts for our loved ones. Our sermon series this month is called “The Gift.” We’re even having a toy drive called “The Gift.”

Why do we do this? It’s most definitely a tradition celebrated by people everywhere. Many people participate just for the sake of excitement and tradition. It always feels good to give.

As Followers of Christ, we should give for a very different reason. “We Love because He first loved us.” (1 John 4:19 NIV) How did He do this?

“For God so loved the world, He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16 NIV) Eternal life!! What a promise. What a gift!! We are reminded of this at Christmas, because it’s a holiday just to celebrate King Jesus’ birthday! But the truth is, we should be celebrating every day. Every time a sinner gives his heart to Jesus, every time someone is healed, every time we hear from God.

“For unto us, a child is born, to us a Son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6 NIV)

Jesus is a gift so big, as humans, it’s difficult to even wrap our minds around it. And God is so good, He gives us a helper through Christ Jesus to understand and to experience the fullness of all the gifts He’s given us, in the Holy Spirit. The Bible is full of God’s promises and gifts. Like Pastor Dallas said Sunday, we just have to realize them. Believe!

“Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever, Amen!” (Ephesians 3:20 NIV)

His power is at work within us every single day! To those who believe, He is with you. Unto Us! I can’t even scratch the surface in such few words to convey the bigness of the gift of Jesus.

UNTO US a child is born!

UNTO US a Son is given!

UNTO US a Wonderful Counselor!

UNTO US Mighty God!

UNTO US Everlasting Father!

UNTO US the Prince of Peace!

Live every day, like it’s Jesus’ birthday. Because every day, He is given to us.
